Individuality is the essence of originality

I don't know how to start with this topic. I just chose this topic when my friend gave me a list of topics to write. According to Google, in its purest sense, individuality refers to a person's unique characteristics, including their personality, beliefs, values, and experiences, that distinguish them from others. I think not all of us can agree to this definition. In today's world, embracing your individuality means molding your personality, beliefs and values according to the social media's do's and don'ts.

People are scared to be left out in a crowd because their thoughts don't align with other's ideologies and thinking and to become a part of the crowd and fit in with others, we follow a similar content. As we know, we consume a specific type of content, which the algorithm curates for us to build a fake belief system in us. A system which not 100% right but we think it is right which leads to stripping away a piece of ourselves in the process of accepting an inauthentic information. Eg. An influencer who says that using this skincare brand will reduce your issues by showing a before and after video. Her/his followers assuming her/him to be real, follows her/his advice and uses that product which may be harmful for one's body. We want to look just like that influencer. We want to be that influencer because all accept her for the way she is.

Slowly, slowly, we give a piece of ourselves bit by bit in search of acceptance from the social media world. This is the stage where we are influenced by the content we consume. I was once caught in this act as well. I thought being a pretty face with a strong confidence to interact with thousands of people online is the ideal girl on social media. Accepted by all, neglected by none.

I tried impersonating a friend of mine who was beautiful and walked with a confidence which can shook anyone. I tried to look like her by dressing up like her, talk like her, behave like her. Even though it's different from the influence of social media, I was influenced by a standard, a mold where guys only talk with pretty girls. Sounds very bad, right? I reached a point where I forget who I really was. You only figure out the damages, when you hit rock bottom.

This journey taught me a crucial lesson: you must choose whether to please others or to embrace your true self. You'll find that very few people in your life will appreciate your genuine personality. But those few are enough. You don't need to keep hiding behind fake standards, proving your worth over and over again to others. Your originality is found only when you dare to be uniquely you...
